When I lived down the street from Khobar Towers.

When people ask me why I am so critical of Former CIA director John Brennan, I simply tell them,

“I used to live down the street from Khobar Towers.”

I used to date (quite illegally in Saudi Arabia) an Irish midwife named Ebilhyn, who worked in Dammam at the Al Fouad Hospital. To get there, and anywhere north of Dhahran, you had to drive past Khobar Towers.

Khobar Towers was empty the entire time I lived there.

The building was located in a horrible area. Next to a major highway, it was crowded, polluted, noisy and hot. As Saudi’s typically did not at that time live in high rise buildings, they shunned Khobar Towers.

Only a complete idiot would have stationed troops there. This makes Brennan an idiot.

To understand just how FUBAR the decision was, you have to look at the times.

How did I, Paul Schwartzmeyer, know of Khobar Towers?

Sure, I lived there, but Al Khobar is a big city, with a lot of buildings and I didn’t know the names of those buildings. I knew it because it was a total Saudi government boondoggle. People openly laughed when they drove by. Nobody was going to live there.

There was also the martyrdom at Karbala of Hussein.

The eastern province, especially Khobar at that time, was crawling with Shia Muslims loyal to Ayatollah Khomeini. Every year, the locals would go out onto the streets and beat themselves with chains to “celebrate” the death of Mohammad’s grandson. What idiot would put troops there? They would have been safer in Tehran!

But that’s not all.

Even an 18-year-old Army private knows you don’t station troops on top of each other. In fact, the Marines on the roof saw the truck and started the evacuation but couldn’t finish in time because it was an 8-story building next to a highway!

Imagine what these men went through.

That area of Al Khobar was crawling with trucks that would have looked like terrorist bombers to a Marine on the roof. In fact, there were dozens of warnings that a terror attack was imminent.

The bombing happened on June 25th, 1996, just 4 months shy of the 13th anniversary of the bombing of US and foreign peacekeepers in Beirut, Lebanon.

Yet Brennan left the troops there.

Were that not enough, there were dozen’s places Brennan could have staged them. That area had, at that time, huge trailer complex north of the city in a place called Al Jubail. I used to live in one when I worked in the north. They were large, easily defensible and far, far nicer than Khobar Towers.

These complexes were designed to house thousands of foreign construction workers who build the industrial city of Jubail. The dining halls were the size of basketball courts. We loved staying there.

They were also close to airfields the US and Saudi’s built to defend against an attack from Iraq through Kuwait. Finally, it’s unlikely anybody would have known they were there. They were in a place that was desolate. There was nothing up there. They could have built a defense perimeter hundreds of feet from the troops.

Anyone who has ever set foot in Saudi Arabia knows that their oil facilities are defended with anti-aircraft guns, fences, and armed guards.

And these are located in the desert miles from population centers. I had to have top-level security clearances and show my ID before I could enter to work there. Yet, our troops were put in an indefensible building next to a highway?

You can learn a lot living in a different country, as I did when I lived down the street from Khobar Towers.

One thing I acquired was a sense to disbelieve conspiracy theories.

I think people believe conspiracy theories because they simply refuse to believe that their government officials could possibly be as god-awful, brain dead stupid as they appear!

My guess is, the REAL reason the moron Brennan stationed troops in Khobar Towers…

was he got a call from a person that owned the building that wanted to finally find somebody dumb enough to rent it! Saudi Arabia is a country that is built on payoffs.

There are about 6,000 worthless, lazy bastards that are connected by blood to whatever Sheik Yourbooty happens to be king.

You can’t imagine how lazy these people are, but more to the point, you can’t imagine how FUBAR your government is. Look no farther than FBI’s anthrax case against Steven Hatfill, the impossible to find Somali warlord that was interviewed by Tom Brokaw or the lack of evidence of WMD.

Who didn’t shake their heads at 9-11?

The day after, on 9-12, Rudolf Giuliani, another moron, stood on the steps of city hall and said, “we knew this was going to happen.” The very next day, Condoleeza Rice, a woman who once referred to George Bush her husband in front of live camera’s, stood in the same place and said, “we had no way of knowing this would happen.”

I learned a lot when I lived down the street from Khobar Towers.

I learned even more in bars strewn out across Asia, South America and Europe. No one that has ever traveled to Eastern Europe before the Berlin wall fell would even imagine embracing socialism. In fact, socialists are even stupider than John Brennan, which is hard to fathom. But there’s something else I learned, and not in my travels.

Something happens when people get into government.

It’s as if a light switch is tripped and they turn into psychopaths. People that would normally be reasonable, decent and charitable resemble cats that catch mice and torture them when they get power over others. And not only that, they attract followers who readily eat the steady diet of self-serving bullshit.

Brennan is hardly alone among brain-dead, self-serving morons.

Governments only work when they are small.

That’s because the government doesn’t work at all. It only appears to work when it is so small, it doesn’t matter.
